Past tense, Progressive tense and Future tense in Vietnamese
Vietnamese has past tense, progressive and future tense as well as English.
In fact, Vietnamese people don’t often use these tenses when they use words indicate time (e.g. ngày mai tomorrow). But in case of without these words or emphasizing the text, often use past tense, progressive and future tense.
This time, we’ll show how to use past tense, progressive and future tense in Vietnamese.
Past tense, Progressive and Future tense in Vietnamese
Past tense「đã」
If you want to express past tense in Vietnamese, use đã in front of verb.
Unlike English, Vietname is very simple, you don’t have to change verb style. All you need to do is putting đã before verb and make a sentence become past tense.
Example:
・Chị đã ăn cơm. She ate foods.(past tense)
Progressive tense 「đang」
In case of expressing progressive tense in Vietnamese, put đang before verb.
Same as past tense, only putting đang in front of verb and make a sentence become progressive tense.
Example:
・Họ đang đến. He is coming.(progressive tense)
・Em đang nói với Tom. She is talking with Tom.(progressive tense)
Future tense「sẽ」
When you express future tense, put sẽ before verb. As you might guess easily, usage of sẽ is same as past tense and progressive tense.
